Can crowdfunding fill gap in biomedical research?

Crowdfunding, along with venture capital and angel investing, could stimulate biomedical innovation and become a new component in how startup biomedical companies are funded, consultant Pieter Droppert writes. Raising research money through crowdfunding might help scientists become more entrepreneurial and lead them to start new companies, Droppert writes. However, by relying on the public to assess the merits of a research project, crowdfunding could lead to easily understood projects being funded as complex but worthy projects lose out, Droppert notes.
