Losing sense of smell may predict earlier death…

A study by US scientists has suggested that losing the ability to smell could be linked to a greater risk of death. The study of more than 3,000 people aged 57 to 85 found that 39 per cent of subjects who failed a simple smelling test died within five years. The results were published in the science journal PLOS ONE on 1 October: “Compared to a person with a normal sense of smell, a person with an absent sense of smell has three times greater risk of dying within a five-year span,” said Dr. Jayant Pinto, the study’s lead author.
